AROUND THE SUFRAH

The Sufrah, a prevalent household item in Muslim homes in Kerala, was a round woven mat used to set the stage for communal meals. People would gather and share food around the Sufrah.

Around The Sufrah, is a project that draws inspiration from this cultural artifact. It is a participatory and collaborative visual research endeavour with the objective of archiving contributions of mostly mappila women from early 20th century. I was approached to design the logo for this project and the cover of their first publication.
